OPW STATEMENT REGARDING THE MEN'S CHAMPIONSHIP
Oceania Pro Wrestling wishes to provide an update regarding the status of the OPW Men's Championship and WrestleWave 2.
Jesse Love was scheduled and advertised to defend the OPW Men's Championship at WrestleWave 2 on September 27 in Torquay.
Following confirmation that Mr Love would not compete at WrestleWave 2, OPW Management announced its intention to declare the championship vacant. This decision was made to allow OPW to honour its commitment to the people of Torquay and present an OPW Men's Championship match as advertised.
Following that announcement, OPW received formal correspondence from Lynden Albiston, representing Lander & Rogers, legal representatives acting on behalf of Mr Love, challenging OPW's decision and asserting that Mr Love remained the recognised OPW Men's Champion - READ HERE
Mr Love's representatives advised OPW of their intention to pursue all available legal remedies should the company proceed with its decision, including seeking an injunction through the Supreme Court of Victoria.
To avoid a protracted legal dispute and the uncertainty that would result, and following discussions between the parties, a resolution has been reached.
OPW will not proceed with its decision to vacate the OPW Men's Championship. Mr Love will instead defend the championship against Bojack on September 5 at IPW Legends Rise, at Dreamworld on the Gold Coast.
OPW Owner Cameron Vale will be in attendance for the September 5 championship defence on behalf of Oceania Pro Wrestling.
OPW remains committed to delivering a Men's Championship match at WrestleWave 2. Consistent with established practice in combat sports and professional wrestling, an Interim OPW Men's Champion will be crowned in Torquay on September 27.
The Interim Championship will allow OPW to honour its commitment to WrestleWave 2.
There can ultimately be only one OPW Men's Champion.
The winner of the OPW Title match between Jesse Love vs Bojack on September 5 will face the Interim OPW Men's Champion in an Undisputed OPW Men's Championship Match on CLASH, the new series from Oceania Pro Wrestling.
